What is CBD?

CBD is Cannabidiol, a naturally-occurring compound found in the stems, leaves, and flowers of the hemp plant (cannabis sativa). It is the most abundant non-intoxicating cannabinoid in cannabis and is being widely studied for its healing properties. You may have heard of a cannabinoid called THC, a compound which is concentrated in certain strains of cannabis which gets users high. Unlike THC, CBD (cannabidiol) is a non-intoxicating cannabinoid and does not cause a high.

Yes. The United States made industrial hemp legal in all 50 states in 2018, defining hemp as cannabis plants with less than 0.3% THC by weight. We ship our CBD and hemp products anywhere in the country for free!

Is CBD safe?

Yes. CBD is non-intoxicating and non-addictive. There have been some minor side effects reported, mostly in relation to medication interactions. For example, CBD can increase the blood concentration of blood thinners and other medications, similar to the effect of grapefruit juice. That said, the vast majority of users report no side effects.

Since CBD is marketed as a supplement as opposed to a medication, it is not subject to the same regulations as other drugs. Despite this lack of safety oversight, Franny's Farmacy applies rigorous standards for purity and safety, ensuring that our products have consistent quality so our customers can expect consistent results.

What is CBG?

Cannabigerol (CBG), often referred to as the “mother of all cannabinoids,” is a non-intoxicating cannabinoid celebrated for its potential benefits in supporting mental clarity, reducing stress, and promoting overall well-being. Whether you're seeking a midday pick-me-up or a natural way to feel refreshed, our CBG products are the perfect choice to help you stay sharp and energized.

Yes. The United States made industrial hemp legal in all 50 states in 2018, defining hemp as cannabis plants with less than 0.3% THC by weight. We ship our CBG, CBD and hemp products anywhere in the country for free!

Is CBG safe?

Yes. CBG is non-intoxicating and non-addictive.

Hemp vs Marijuana

Will CBD get me “high”?

No. CBD is non-intoxicating and will not get you “high” as the cannabinoid THC would. Users report clarity of mind while experiencing a calmative effect. At high doses, CBD may be sleep-inducing.

Will CBD help my pain, anxiety, or any other condition?

Possibly. Due to federal regulations, we cannot make claims about whether or not CBD can help with specific ailments. Anecdotally, we can tell you that we have many customers who use our products to help alleviate symptoms of a myriad of conditions. We encourage you to communicate with your physician about your plans to utilize CBD to target a specific condition.

How do I consume CBD?

You have options. Tinctures are a great option for every day, scalable use. Consider using our Franny's Gummies or any other of our edibles for a quick dose on the go or before bed. We have topical products for aches and pains. We have high-quality smokable Hemp Flower for a fast-acting result, which can also be consumed in various smoking delivery devices.

The CBD Hemp Oil Tinctures we offer have a couple different applications. You can hold a sublingual dose under the tongue for 30–60 seconds (recommended for fastest absorption), apply the oil topically to your skin (can be applied directly to a problem area or mixed with your favorite moisturizer), or blend the oil in a health-conscious smoothie. Check out our product pages for more specifics on use.

Do I need a prescription to access CBD products?

No. Hemp-based CBD products are legal to buy and sell in all 50 states. This means you can access CBD anywhere without a prescription or a marijuana card. You can buy it on our website. You can become a Franny's affiliate and sell it yourself.

Will CBD make me test positive on a drug test?

That depends on the type of CBD you are consuming, the amount you take, your personal metabolism, and the type of test administered.

We offer Hemp Oil Tincture which includes fractional content of the full cannabinoids in hemp, which include a small amount of THC. If you are a heavy user, some of this THC may accumulate in your body and cause a positive result. To eliminate this possibility, we offer a CBD Isolate, with only CBD in it for individuals who face drug testing. According to Quest Diagnostics Director of Science and Technology, Barry Sample, CBD likely won't show up on a drug test: “If the product contains only CBD and has had the THC removed, then an individual being tested would not be expected to test positive for marijuana or marijuana metabolite.”

If you are required to take a drug test for employment or any other reason, we advise you to speak with your employer or test administrator regarding the products you have used and the possibility of a positive result before you take the test.

As a first time CBD user, what should I buy first?

A collective of farmers growing organic, bio-dynamic — with nature's best intentions

Where does Franny's Farmacy hemp come from?

Primarily Franny's Farm and its network of ethical, living wage certified farmers. Our CBD Hemp Flower is grown locally and organically outdoors on Franny's Farm and indoor with our greenhouse partners. Our CBD Hemp Oil is extracted from natural hemp plants cultivated on Franny's Farm in Leicester, NC and licensed farms in Asheville, North Carolina, and throughout certified licensed farms in the USA.

We prioritize hemp from North Carolina and the Southeast. We are a collective of farmers growing natural, bio-dynamic hemp with nature's best intentions. Franny's Farmacy hemp is grown the way nature intended and harvested at peak perfection.

When you evaluate CBD online, it's important to differentiate the large enterprises that are importing hemp from external sources, from the family owned and operated farms like Franny's Farm, that control everything from seed to shelf.

Quality and control matters – particularly in an unregulated industry. Sourcing high-quality hemp flower for making products and tinctures is essential, particularly because extractions of hemp can also extract molds and pesticides, which are incredibly unhealthy. Unscrupulous companies can allow contaminated hemp into their supply chain without care for the user.

We are run by farmers committed to healthy products, not stockholders committed to profit.

How do you know how much CBD is in your products?

Testing. Our CBD oil is lab-tested as soon as it is extracted and then again by a third party lab, to ensure an accurate amount of CBD. See the COAs (Certificate of Analysis) for our topicals, tinctures, edibles and hemp flower.

What is the difference between CBD from hemp and CBD from marijuana?

The source. Both hemp and marijuana are from the same genus and species (cannabis sativa). Hemp's characteristic of having low THC (less than 0.3% as required by federal law) is the difference that most rely on to distinguish industrial hemp from marijuana. CBD taken from hemp and marijuana is the exact same compound.

Is your CBD a whole plant extract, synthetic, or an isolate?

Whole plant extract. We would never sacrifice quality by providing a synthetic CBD or CBD isolate blend. We use a whole plant extract that is rich in cannabinoids, terpenes, and other beneficial oils. The Hadassah Medical School at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem sought to compare the effectiveness of a pure CBD extract versus a full-spectrum extract of hemp. The study concluded that the whole plant extract, which contained a large percentage of CBD as well as traces of the other cannabinoids, proved more effective than CBD-only solutions in alleviating inflammation and pain sensation. This synergistic effect is known as the “entourage effect.”

What does “full-spectrum” CBD / hemp mean?

“Full-spectrum” means that the CBD product is also rich in other cannabinoids like CBC, CBG, and CBN, and also contains other phytonutrients that are beneficial to your health and wellbeing. Full-spectrum hemp also includes a fractional content of THC, at legally compliant ratio (less than 0.3% as mandated by Federal law).

What other cannabinoids are in your CBD oil?

Our full-spectrum Hemp Oil Tinctures contain high concentrations of CBD and also other beneficial cannabinoids such as CBC, CBG, CBDA, and CBDV. You can see the specific breakdown of these cannabinoids by reading the Certificates of Analysis (COAs) for each product. These beneficial cannabinoids are not psychoactive and are being studied scientifically for a wide variety of health benefits. Cannabinoids work synergistically together with what is known as the entourage effect.

What other ingredients are in your hemp oil tinctures?

Only hemp & grape seed oil. Our extracts contain 100% organic cold pressed hemp oil and our proprietary full spectrum CBD concentrate. There are no other additives, preservatives, emulsifiers, or flavorings.

When does the product expire?

If kept away from a heat source in a cool, dark place, your CBD products should last for up to one year.

As a first time CBD user, what should I buy first?

Everyone has different preferences & tolerances for their CBD products – and you can find a breakdown of the varying product categories further down on this page, but we're happy to help you get started.

What’s the best way to take CBD?

It's your decision, but we can help. Everyone is different. One CBD delivery method is not necessarily better than the other. Part of the fun is finding the ideal delivery method that provides the effects you are seeking. Some like taking tincture under the tongue or in their drink. Others like smoking joints.

It's entirely subjective. But to help you get started making that decision, allow us to review the most popular delivery methods available.

Edibles

Easily consumed items that are a great introduction to CBD. Franny's Farmacy offers CBD in honey sticks, capsules, gummies, protein/hemp bars, chocolates, teas, coffees, and a variety of other edibles. As edibles must be absorbed in the digestive tract, effects can take longer to manifest, and a small portion of the CBD is filtered out so users may want to use higher doses than they would with tinctures.

Topicals

Soothing applications commonly used for aching joints and muscles. Common forms of CBD topicals include balms, salves, oils, lotions, creams, and bath bombs. They are great after a workout or if you suffer from joint inflammation. The skin quickly absorbs the CBD to target the area of pain. Some people also turn to topicals for acne and other skin disorders. Users report feeling the effects of CBD topicals within minutes of application. The CBD creams or balms are also often laced with capsaicin or menthol as bonus ingredients to soothe.

Hemp Oil Tinctures / Drops

Portable, controlled delivery for a wide range of doses and timelines. Hemp Oil Tinctures are one of the easiest ways to ingest CBD. The delicate mucous membranes of your mouth absorb the oil, so it enters your bloodstream rapidly. Most people report feeling the effects of sublingual CBD in less than 20 minutes. If you have digestive disorders, this is one of the best ways to take CBD because it bypasses the gastrointestinal system entirely. When using oil drops place a few drops directly under your tongue and hold the oil in your mouth for a minute or two so your body absorbs it. Full-spectrum CBD oils are robust and earthy with a noticeable hemp flavor. For individuals who prefer a milder tasting product, we offer a peppermint line made with pure essential oils. The isolate is almost tasteless.

Vaporizers

Inhalation of CBD through vapes is the best way to achieve the fastest relief. The lungs are filled with blood vessels that quickly absorb the CBD. Individuals who are suffering from digestive disorders, nausea, headaches, anxiety, and severe pain often choose this safe CBD delivery method. You will need a vape pen or vaporizer to use the CBD vapes. The vapes come in a wide array of flavors.

Smoking Hemp Flower

Whether you are smoking a joint, a pipe, a bong, or a vaporizer, Franny's Farmacy's hemp flower is a great way to enjoy CBD. Each Franny's Grammy contains one gram of full-spectrum hemp flower. We offer rotating strains from the best farms in the nation. The Cherry Wine strain is grown at Franny's Farm, while other strains like Lifter, Suver Haze, and Elektra are grown at Family Practice Hemp.

How do I store my CBD products?

Your CBD products should be stored away from a heat source in a cool, dark place. If kept in optimal conditions, it will last for up to one year.

Calculating Dosage

Calculating Dosage

CBD dosing is highly individual and depends on what you wish to accomplish.

Jump to a section

What is the right dose of CBD?

It depends. CBD does not have any one dosage that works for everyone. The optimal CBD dosage depends on several factors, including CBD tolerance, body type, and the specific symptoms being targeted for relief. The CBD product type and its concentration are also factors when estimating the correct dose.

How much CBD should I take?

Dosing is highly individualized and depends on what you are taking it to accomplish. We suggest speaking with a healthcare professional before you start to ascertain an adequate dose. While taking too much will not result in adverse effects, you may be able to achieve the same results with less. Take note of how your doses affect you and adjust the dose and frequency as needed.

Topical CBD can be applied directly to the affected area, and you can use it as often as you wish. CBD oils and tinctures can be added to food or drinks, or held under your tongue for 60 seconds for maximum and immediate absorption.

How long does it take to start working?

Most people find that taking CBD regularly over time brings the best results. Since you do not experience a “high” from taking CBD, there won’t be any dramatic indication that it has taken effect.

What factors determine my dose of CBD?

Concentration, body weight, tolerance, level of discomfort, and other factors. It’s best to first determine how much CBD is in each dose of your product, then weigh that against the remaining factors.

Concentration

Determining a product’s concentration is a critical aspect of calculating dosage — it’s the strength, or amount of CBD, in the product. It’s generally measured in mg per serving. For example, a 1500 mg tincture in a 30 ml bottle delivers 50 mg of CBD per 1 ml serving (1500 mg ÷ 30 ml = 50 mg/ml).

Body Weight

It is generally recommended to consume 1 to 5 mg of CBD per 10 pounds of body mass. A “conservative” first dose for someone weighing 200 lbs would be about 20 mg; an “aggressive” dose for that same person would be around 100 mg. Heavier individuals typically require more to feel significant effects.

CBD Tolerance

If you’ve used CBD for a long time, your body may have developed a tolerance, so you might not feel the same strength of effects as when you started. If you notice an increased tolerance, either take a short break or increase your dose to achieve effective results.

Level of Discomfort & Pain

Many people estimate their dose based on the discomfort or pain they experience. With chronic pain or anxiety, higher doses may be needed to treat symptoms. Start with lower doses and work your way up to an effective amount.

Discuss With Your Doctor

One of the most important steps for estimating the right dose. Consult an experienced medical professional before incorporating CBD into your routine — especially if you have a history of any chronic condition — as only a professional can help you estimate the right dosage for your body.

Never Start With High Doses

Every person has distinct body chemistry. Take lighter doses in the beginning so you can gauge your body’s reaction, then determine your ideal dose by gradually increasing consumption.

What is Delta-8 THC?

Delta-8 THC is a cannabinoid that occurs in hemp flower in small quantities. Through the process of isomerization, we convert CBD distillate into Delta-8 THC. This special cannabinoid offers an elevated, clear-headed experience. It is distinct from CBD and so consumers should use caution in dosing.

Is Delta-8 THC the same as Delta-9 THC?

No, However; Customers have said Delta-8 THC is almost as potent as normal THC products. Customers have also reported effects similar to Sativa Dominant products, with feelings of clarity.. Again, these are customer comments only and your experience may differ.

Will Delta-8 THC get me high?

Some customers reported a slightly psychoactive/euphoric effect when consuming Delta-8 which some find similar to the affects of Delta-9 THC.

Does Delta-8 THC contain any chemicals/is your Delta-8 THC safe?

All of our CBD and Delta-8 products are tested for quality and purity! You can find these results by scanning the QR code on the packaging of our product, this will take you to the COA page on our website! A COA is a certificate of analysis, each product we sell goes through a testing process to test for not only quality but heavy metals to ensure our products remain safe!

What is THCA and how is it different from THC?

THCA (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) is a naturally occurring compound found in raw hemp and cannabis plants. Unlike THC, THCA is non-psychoactive in its raw form. When exposed to heat through a process called decarboxylation, THCA converts into THC, the compound known for producing intoxicating effects. Many users are exploring THCA for its natural plant-based properties without the high.

THCA products that are derived from legal hemp and contain less than 0.3% Delta-9 THC by dry weight may be compliant under the 2018 Farm Bill. However, laws can vary by state. Always check your local hemp laws and regulations before purchasing or using THCA products.

Does THCA cause a high?

In its raw form, THCA does not produce psychoactive effects. However, when THCA is heated, smoked, or vaporized, it transforms into Delta-9 THC, which can be intoxicating. If you’re looking for a non-psychoactive experience, raw or cold-extracted THCA products may be more suitable.

How do people use THCA products?

THCA is available in various forms including flower, tinctures, concentrates, and edibles. Some consumers prefer to juice raw cannabis leaves, while others use THCA in vape or smokable form, which activates THC through heat. Always follow usage guidelines and product instructions from trusted sources.

Is THCA the same as Delta-8 or Delta-9 THC?

No. THCA is a precursor to Delta-9 THC and is found in raw cannabis. Delta-8 and Delta-9 are different cannabinoids that already have psychoactive properties. THCA remains non-intoxicating until heated, setting it apart from both Delta-8 and Delta-9 in terms of effects and use cases.
